Nicht schlecht für eine Domainendung, die eigentlich \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.cyon.ch\u002Fblog\u002Finternet-pionierin-elizabeth-feinler\">nur aus der Not heraus geboren\u003C\u002Fa> wurde.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Dass an zweiter Stelle bereits die Domainendung des Inselstaates Tokelau liegt, ist für die meisten Leser*innen wohl eine Überraschung. Die 27,5 Millionen registrierten Domainnamen dürften aber vor allem auf das etwas spezielle «Freemium»-Modell zurückzuführen sein, mit dem die «.tk»-Domains teilweise vergeben werden. Auf Platz 5 folgt «.net», mit 13,4 Millionen Domainnamen.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Und das Schweizer «.ch»?\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Mit 2’341’000 registrierten Domains (Stand vom 15. September 2020) hat «.ch» keine Chance, in den Top 10 der meistgenutzten Top-Level-Domains aufzutauchen. Ganz ausser Konkurrenz läuft zudem die nur sehr restriktiv vergebene Domainendung «.swiss», von der zum selben Zeitpunkt insgesamt 18’057 Domainnamen zugeteilt waren.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Inhaber*innen von .ch-Domains sind auch meist nicht international, sondern stammen zum allergrössten Teil – zu 85,7 Prozent – aus der Schweiz. Die 14,3 Prozent ausländischen .ch-Domainhalter*innen verteilen sich hauptsächlich auf deutsche (46%), französische (10,5%), amerikanische (9,7%) und österreichische (6,8%) Inhaber. Potential hat .ch aber durchaus, wie auch der kontinuierliche Anstieg der Registrierungszahlen zeigt.
