Angefangen hat alles mit der Einführung des sogenannten Gutenberg-Editors in WordPress 5.0, der mit seinen Blöcken für ganz neue Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten innerhalb von Beiträgen sorgte. Diese Funktionen wurden seither immer weiter ausgebaut.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Full-Site-Editing\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Doch um was geht es bei «Full-Site-Editing», oder kurz «FSE», eigentlich genau? Hinter FSE verbirgt sich die Idee, dass WordPress-Websites künftig ausschliesslich aus Blöcken bestehen und diese so direkt im Editor bearbeitet werden können. Das ist im Vergleich zu bisher, wo Templates aus einem via WordPress-Editor befüllbaren Hauptteil und einem nicht direkt editierbaren Bereich (zum Beispiel Kopf- und Fussteil einer Site) bestanden, ein Paradigmenwechsel. Dazu gehört insbesondere ein neuer Vorlagen-Editor, mit dem Templates und Template-Teile gebaut werden. Er erhält weitere neue Blöcke, etwa für Tags, Autoren oder Kategorien, Teile zur Erstellung von Header oder Footer mit Site-Titel, Logo sowie Blocks für die Navigation. Zudem können neu alle Blöcke auch im Widget-Bereich der Themes verwendet werden.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>WordPress 5.9, das voraussichtlich im Dezember 2021 erscheinen soll, liefert dann weitere Teile auf dem Weg zum Full Site Editing. Darunter eine neue Generation von Themes, die ausschliesslich mit Blocks definiert wurden, sowie Funktionen für «Global Styles», mit denen Standardwerte für Schrift, Schriftgrösse oder Farben global selbst definiert werden können.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>WebP – Das schlanke Bildformat\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Mit 5.8 erhält WordPress auch Unterstützung für das schlanke Bildformat WebP. Das ursprünglich von Google entwickelte Bildformat soll bei gleicher Qualität deutlich kleinere Dateien als die Konkurrenten JPG oder PNG produzieren. Allerdings steht dem ein etwas höhere Rechenzeit auf dem Gerät des Betrachters gegenüber, \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.cyon.ch\u002Fblog\u002Fwebp\">wie bereits 2017 kritisiert wurde\u003C\u002Fa>. Mit der \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fcaniuse.com\u002Fwebp\">breiten Unterstützung von WebP\u003C\u002Fa> durch die gängigen Webbrowser und nun auch WordPress dürfte die Verbreitung damit etwas zunehmen. Ob das für den Durchbruch sorgt, steht dann allerdings auf einem anderen Blatt.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch2>Duotone Effekt\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\u003Cp>Ein nettes kleines Feature von 5.8 ist zudem der neue Duotone-Effekt für Bilder. Das hat zum Vorteil, dass das Bild nicht bearbeitet und damit unterschiedlich eingesetzt werden kann.
